I just found this article in O Magazine (the only magazine besides Origin I read) last month, and I wanted to share the cliff notes version with you. It’s titled “Grow Up, Ladies”. It basically says that a record-breaking number of women are graduating college these days – so, why aren’t we acting like adults? I totally get it because I see this all of the time. Here are some steps to grow up!
- Learn to take care of yourself
- Embrace confrontation
- Figure out what you need and ask for it
- Quit blaming your mother for everything that’s wrong in your life
- Two Words: Club Soda
- Have perspective
I’m not even gonna get into the sub bullet points because I think those 6 things are pretty self explanatory. I’m going to do my best at each one of them – I already got a few of them down – but I need to work on others (hello, confrontation). And if GraceIsTheNewGlam can add a 7th tip – it would be MEDITATE!
Last night was epic and I’ll tell you why – I had the honor of having an appointment with Lora Sorg, an intuitive life coach based in Encinitas. A great friend gave me her name – and I booked as soon as I had the chance.
As soon as Lora and I met (even on the phone) I felt a great connection with her. When I sat down in her office, that’s when shit got crazy. She pinpointed right away that I’m highly intuitive – which I already knew. She described exactly how I feel when I come in contact with certain people’s energy – tired, nauseous, angry, frustrated – it was more beneficial for me to hear than [because lately I’ve been feeling psycho] than being diagnosed at a doctor’s office. She gave me tools and meditations to use to clear my head and protect my own energy.
Lora knew all about me. She pegged my boyfriend, my job, my blog, and where I want to go and what I want to do. And, I can assure you she did not know a thing about me – except my name, phone number and that I have an iPhone (iMessage gives it away).
Let’s digress to the moral of the story here. I am pretty connected to my intuition and I am so lucky – thanks to yoga, sobriety, mediation, healthy eating, etc – but we all have this power within us. We can see the future, we know when things don’t feel right. Now I feel it’s my job to share my gift with the universe – how to channel YOUR intuition.
I tapped in and I’m here to take you on my psychic intuitive adventures… Are you ready?!?!?! And…are you ready to tap into your own???
Lora Sorg – is AMAZING – and I highly recommend her. If you can scoop up $180 (I know, I know – expensive – you’d rather get a facial) it is SO worth it. You’ll get a massive burst of clarity. Trust me. She sees clients from everywhere.
Here’s Lora’s information:
I was so lucky to be invited to dinner with 2 of my new friends – Sarah and Peter of Cooking with CSA. I met them through work – and we all instantly clicked. After teaching 2 killer classes at my store, it was time to take things out of WFM! They invited. I accepted. And then to meditation and dinner we went.
So, I went into the experience knowing Sarah and Peter could cook and I was eager to see what they would serve up at their house (they are super organic vegan and work directly with the local farmers which is SO COOL). Sarah made a killer salad with all fresh ingredients that I would never think of putting together paired with a homemade fresh dressing….followed by a rad veggie lasgana!
What was best about our hang out was that I left feeling happy and inspired. We talked, we laughed, we shared stories. It was the simplest and most amazing fun to be had. I really appreciate my new friends and I’m hoping we could do it again soon. Maybe I’ll even cook (with Sarah’s help, of course).
Maybe they’ll share the recipes if we ask nicely.
And…if you have time, check out their website, Cooking with CSA, for monthly recipes using seasonal and organic ingredients.
CorePower Yoga – Del Mar. I love their chic, yellow and gray decor, friendly staff and instructors, and that it’s a nice teeny tiny walk from my work. Also, you work out HARD and sweat your brains out! Absolutely in love with this place – check it out and get your OM on!
Spiritual Gangster and Ellie.com for work out gear. I just love both of these lines. Spiritual Gangster is basically lounge wear (or to-and-from yoga wear as well). I love their unique take on yoga culture. Ellie.com is ultimate fitness gear. For $50 a month you get 2 pieces of high-quality work out clothes delivered to your door. Holy Detox Tea by Zen’s Tea House. This is my mad find at the Long Beach Farmer’s Market this weekend. I’m slowly breaking out of coffee in the morning – so this is a crazy-rad replacement. It’s fruity with some substance. Great for your skin, your gut, and detoxing!
Rise Bars. This is one of my go-to bars. I have them in my purse, my car, my gym bag. They go with me wherever. They are local to Orange County and contain great ingredients to keep me healthy. They’re found at Whole Foods Markets. (added bonus: they’re gluten free)
Suja Juice’s Lemon Love. Holy spicy, Batman! This drink is my sober cocktail. Besides stimulating your digestive enzymes, it is delicious. It’s lemon water with a kick. Think, an amazing tasting master cleanse. I can’t drink enough of this stuff. Be careful, though, this addiction could cost you.
These last few weeks have been a whirlwind and I am really starting to feel brave in my ripe age of 30. Last week, I posted this blog to my network of friends which I was deathly afraid of. I’m going for an opportunity at work that I never thought would come available and never thought I’d be supported on – and I faced my fears of health and got blood work done to see if I am indeed healthy.
Being Brave by releasing my blog: I decided I’m really going to put myself out there and not be embarrassed of who I am. I’m spiritual. I’m sober. I believe in God. I pray every night and meditate in the morning. I used to be afraid to admit these things to people – because I was afraid of judgement. With putting my fear aside, I may actually be able to help someone – which is a miracle.
Being Brave at work: I get really uncomfortable with work stuff because I had a few rough spats in my career over the past 15 years. After a long journey, I’m in a job and company that I love and want to grow with. After talking the talk of wanting to move up – I’m going for a new opportunity. Pretty rad, huh? Wish me luck!
Being Brave at the Doctor’s: I was lucky to meet the fine folks over at Bloom Natural Health through my job. It led to me doing a full bloodwork panel that I’ve never done before – because I was deathly afraid I was going to find out that I’m dying. I faced my fears and got my results back today. Surprisingly, I am not dying – and I am one healthy young lady, but I do have areas to work on. My brave face paid off and I feel so much better!
So, beautiful people, I encourage you to be brave. Take chances. Face your fears. In the end, you feel a hell of a lot better. Life is too short!
Release your fears in the comments section (and to the universe).
This is my break up letter to sugar. And my public declaration that I’m completely over it. Friends, please keep me in check if you see me going for a cookie or cupcake! Love you!
I am officially ending our hot, sneaky, steamy, secret love affair. It causes me nothing by guilt, sadness, and inflammation in my body. The high is great after we meet is amazing, but it’s just not worth it anymore. I’ll admit, I’m completely addicted to you and I’m also madly in love with you and your many personalities….cookies, donuts, cupcakes, ice cream, etc. This madness has to end.
I forgive you and I forgive myself for all of this insanity. We need to go our separate ways. I’m onto bigger and better natural foods – like maple syrup, honey, and fruit juice. To be honest, I don’t event think I’m going to miss you. You made me feel bad about myself and it’s because of you I put on a few pounds.
Forgiveness is key here. See you maybe on special occasions, but please know that we are finished.
If you don’t know what an energy vampire is – here you go. It’s a friend [or frienemy – or coworker, family member – they are everywhere] that every encounter with them is a complete energy drain. These people bog you down with their problems and suck you into their drama. When you leave the encounter, you feel worse about the situation, the person, and life in general.
The past few years, I’ve cleared my space of these energy vampires. I’ve had enough of getting the life sucked out of me when all I wanted to do is have fun. But they creep up every now and then – especially when it’s an uncontrollable situation – like in the grocery store, the line at Starbucks, and even work. Here’s some tips (no garlic needed) to help you stay clear!
How to Dodge an Energy Vampire
- Limit exposure to them
- Keep it short and sweet: be nice; hear them out – but there’s other things to do and people to see. If it’s a frienemy – keep outings to coffee so you can dodge out simply and quickly
- Be positive. A little positivity goes a long way!
- Do your best to be of service
- Say a prayer for them and forgive them (prayers can actually help)
Got frienemies? Talk about ’em in the comments.
It’s so easy to get dragged down by life – your job, your friends, family drama. It’s like going down a rabbit hole and not being able to breathe.
I try so hard not to get sucked into a booby-trap of negativity by focusing on what motivates me. Here’s just a few…
Doing things that make me feel good…. For instance, I took a mega-hard hot yoga class tonight. I had no idea what to expect and it’s been a while since my last intense yoga class. I suited up and faced my fears (sweat my brains out) and completed the practice. Guess what? I loved it – and now I’m inspired to write tonight! Other feel-good things to me are – walking, cuddling up and watching TV with my BF, late night calls with my sister, mid-afternoon naps, much needed mani/pedis, etc.
Motivated people (also filed under ‘People who walk the walk’….)… I love people that inspire me. It’s the people who work really hard around me on a daily basis that keep work fun and creative. Also – top notch people making a difference like Marianne Williamson, Josie Maran, Summer Rayne Oakes, Krishna Das, Kris Carr… I can go on and on. All of these individuals have passion and do good for the world.
Do-Good Companies…. There’s so many out there right now, but off the top of my head I can think of Toms, The Giving Keys, Acure Organics, Nika Water, Whole Foods Market, Charity Water, etc. All of these big and small companies are motivating me. That’s what I want to be a part of.
There’s lots more – but maybe this post will motivate you too. What inspires and motivates your spirit? Tell me in the comment!
I had some time this morning so I put on the 3 Magic Words movie via Netflix while sipping on my hot water and lemon. Interesting concept…. Towards the end of the film, the 3 magic words are I-AM-GOD. The notion that we all are God is pretty profound if you ask me. Til this day, I still get a little weirded out when using the G-word around people – because I’m never sure on how others will react. (As time goes on, it does get easier and all of my inner posse use the word all the time – AWESOME!)
Here’s to say I was inspired. We should all feel that God is within us and we have this crazy power each and every moment of the day. I’ve come to ask myself….How can I channel my inner goddess better? For starters, I can meditate and do yoga more – but maybe it’s talking more freely about spirituality and not caring about what others think. Also pump positivity in me through books, quotes, social media and throw all of the nonsense and gossip and not healthy stuff out the door.
What’s your thoughts on this? I’d love to hear!
Quote of the Day: “Honor yourself. Worship yourself. Meditate on yourself. God dwells within you as you.” ~Swami Muktananda
Happy Summer Solstice, Beautiful People. I’ve had a pretty awesome day today – and I hope you have too. I put in a hard days work – but it’s what happen afterwards that matters.
When 4PM hit, I headed out of the marketing world and into the natural health world. I went to Bloom Natural Health‘s Summer Solstice party in Encinitas. It cleared my mind completely. The evening’s activities were mediation, planting intentions on seed paper, releasing negative stuff in a fire, and healthy drinks galore from Beaming Vitality Bar. I had a great time!
[Beware: I’m going to get really real here] I planted my intentions in the Bloom garden for success. Financial, career, relationship are my goals for this year. For my release, I wrote down in crystal clear ink – Jealousy, Greed, and Judgement. Things I really need to let go of for sure. I’ve struggled with it for years. Now is the time I must let them go – for myself and those around me – and I’m ready to do it. Hello, Clarity – I’m ready for you!
So, now is the time where I turn it over to you – what are your intentions for the summer solstice of 2013? What are you releasing?
I appreciate BLOOM for having me at this wonderful gathering!
